About Maria
Maria Agnew brings a high level of enthusiasm and energy to the learning environment while facilitating the energy and experience of her students for a well-rounded learning experience. She believes in helping each person develop the interpersonal skills to be a more effective person and leader.
She has a diverse training background specializing in communication skills, managing for high performance and retention, effective confrontation without conflict, coaching and mentoring, and leadership dynamics. Maria has trained law enforcement officers, firefighters, corrections staff, volunteers and citizens, teachers and health professionals. She understands a variety of management issues as well as the issues related to the different clientele and the communities we serve.
Maria Agnew brings 24 years of law enforcement experience and the past 13 years in supervision. She has 12 years of experience in the leadership division for the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Center (WSCJTC) training a variety of people in the criminal justice field. Maria has expanded to the United States Forest Service (USFS), and The National Park Service (NPS). Other leadership classes she teaches include L-380-facilitation and L-381 development and facilitation for the Federal government. She has also utilized facilitation skills to help challenge personal application of the skills taught for personal and professional development while focusing on self and the impact the individual can have on the organization.
She is currently the Patrol Lieutenant for the Chelan County Sheriff's Office. Prior to returning to patrol, Maria was Deputy Director for the Chelan County Emergency Management and special operations for 7 years. Maria is a Type 2 Public Information Officer, and active on a TYPE II incident management team for the State of Washington.
Having been employed in non-traditional careers, (Law Enforcement, Alcoa Aluminum, and heavy construction), Maria has been able to utilize her strengths and experiences to enhance her leadership skills and apply those experiences to the training environment. She brings a wide range of diversity on various issues including cultural dynamics, race, religion and gender.
Former students comment that Maria provides excellent use of personal experience to help make points more applicable and outstanding facilitation skills. They have enjoyed her sense of humor and her high energy while teaching the curriculum and the practical applications that she is able to apply to the material.
Maria has an MA in Law and Justice from Central Washington University and a Masters of Arts in Organizational Development from the Leadership Institute of Seattle/Bastyr University. She is a Resource Partner for Libby Wagner and Associates for Influencing Options Programs. Maria spends a great deal of time helping organizations move from a compliant culture to a commitment culture -one conversation at a time. This strategy builds a profit culture for both private and public organizations. Maria is also certified with Ken Blanchard in: Situational Leadership II®, Building High Performing Teams® and Situational Self Leadership. Maria has been a guest speaker on a wide variety of speaking topics including: team development, new leadership challenges, Leading with the Core Dimensions: respect, empathy, specificity and genuiness, and strategies to help with confrontation without conflict.
